Last week, the global new shipbuilding market saw a significant increase in order volume, with new ship orders mainly concentrated in the container ship sector.

According to the latest weekly report from Golden Destiny, the shipowner ordered a total of 45 new ships last week, including 5 bulk carriers, 15 oil tankers, 8 general cargo ships, and 17 container ships, with a total capacity of 2465000 deadweight tons. Among them, the specific cost of 29 new ships has not been announced, and the total investment cost of the remaining 16 new ships is about 377.5 million US dollars. The number of new ship orders has increased by 80% compared to the previous week.

Data shows that container ship orders had the highest volume last week, accounting for 37.8% of the total order volume; The volume of bulk carrier orders accounts for 11.1%; The order volume of oil tankers accounts for 33.3%; The order volume of grocery ships accounts for 17.8%. Compared to the previous week, the number of oil tanker orders has increased by 67%, from 9 to 15; The number of container ship orders increased by 240%, from 5 to 17; The order volume of liquefied gas ships has decreased by 100%, from 2 to 0; The order volume of special ships has decreased by 100%, from 8 to 0; The number of cruise ship orders has decreased by 100%, from 1 to 0.

Clarksons Hellas pointed out that last week in the oil tanker field, Asahi Tanker Co placed an order with South Japan Shipbuilding for 2+1 51000 DWT MR type product oil tankers, which are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2017. After the alternative order takes effect, it is expected to be delivered in early 2018.

In the field of container ships, Taiping Shipping Co., Ltd. has placed an order for 4+4 9700 TEU container ships with Yangtze River Shipping Industry, expected to be delivered in 2017. After the alternative order takes effect, it is expected to be delivered in 2018, with a cost of approximately 84 million US dollars per ship; Hamburg South America, Germany, has placed an order with Yangtze River Shipping for 4+4 3800 TEU container ships, expected to be delivered in 2017. After the alternative order takes effect, it is expected to be delivered in 2018, with a cost of approximately 43 million US dollars per ship.

In other ship types, Tarbit has placed an order for two 9400 DWT asphalt transport ships at RMK Marine Shipyard. The first ship is expected to be delivered in mid-2017, and the second ship is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2017.
