Do you know the advantages and disadvantages of sea freight?

Sea freight is the main mode of transportation for our current global economic development, accounting for 80% of international cargo transportation. The position of sea freight cannot be underestimated. Why did we choose sea freight among the three modes of transportation by sea, land, and air? What are the advantages of sea freight? What are the disadvantages of sea freight?

Advantages of sea freight:

Natural waterway: Shipping is not limited by roads or tracks, has strong traffic capacity, and can adjust and change routes at any time according to the situation to achieve transportation tasks.

Large transportation volume: The carrying capacity of ships for sea transportation can reach hundreds of thousands of tons, with the world's largest ship, the Knox Nevis, reaching 564763 tons.

Low shipping costs: Shipping uses naturally formed waterways, and government built ports have lower ship usage; Ships have a large transportation volume, long service life, and long transportation mileage, so the calculated freight cost is relatively low

Disadvantages of maritime transportation:

Limited by climate and supporting facilities: In case of extreme weather such as rainstorm and fog, the ship needs to take shelter in time for safety. After a ship arrives at the port, the port's supporting facilities also have an impact on the ship's operations at the port, such as whether large ships can dock at the arrival port and whether there are berths for ships at the anchorage at the arrival port.

The transportation location is restricted: as the vessel is a maritime transportation vehicle, after arriving at the destination, the goods can only be transported to the dock where the vessel is docked, and door-to-door delivery cannot be achieved. The flexibility of sea transportation is relatively low and requires the cooperation of ground systems to complete the entire transportation process.

Slow sea transportation speed: Due to the large volume of ships traveling at sea and the strong resistance they face, the speed of sea transportation is called slow land transportation or air transportation, which is not suitable for transporting emergency supplies.
